Prairie turnip is a prairie plant that grows on dry, gravelly slopes, hillsides, and bluffs in loam or gravelly loam soil in full sun. It forms a large, edible root that should never be harvested in the wild (nor any other prairie plant) because native prairie remnants are so few.
